Character
Name: Hunk
Series: Voltron: Legendary Defender
Timeline: End of Episode 11
Canon Resource Links: Wikia

Personality:
The gentle giant goofball of the bunch and the left leg of Voltron, Hunk is as sweet as he is round (that is to say: quite a bit). His problems have always included caring too much and too deeply, but they haven't gotten him into too much trouble (yet)--unless you count becoming a Paladin (or a pilot) of Voltron just because he snuck out one night during "team bonding" shenanigans. Besides fighting aliens in space, he doesn't like the idea of fighting, verbally or violently at all. He'll be the first one to mediate a situation, hold someone back, or try to talk logic into all parties in the hopes of finding peace before using his strength.

And strength--physically--is actually one of his strong suits. Despite the pudginess, he's surrounded by a core of solid muscle, able to lift hundreds of pounds pretty easily. He can pick up his friends with ease, can give piggyback rides, and tends to use it more towards moving and shifting large things than anything else. Outside of that, he's surprisingly cautious. His movements are careful and calculated to avoid from bumping into others or hitting anyone, and he uses that precision touch to help with making or building technology. Back in school, at the Garrison, where young cadets are trained to be space pilots, Hunk's main role on the teams is an engineer, and for good reason. He's great with science and physics.

Hunk is also ridiculously observant, nearly always paying attention to situations. He tends to notice minor details or strange happenstance, which has come in handy more than once. During a particularly bad encounter when they'd run across two aliens in need of assistance from a broken ship--turns out, it was a trap--Hunk noticed something strange with the repairs given the pieces requested and the placement of them on the vessel, something his other teammates weren't aware of. He earned himself ranting rights once the team discovered that they'd been had, as he'd known something was wrong from the start. He's also a great analyst on the battle field, tending to take in some details to ask about when they're up against some creature to fight.

But outside of that, he's also usually one of the first to know if a friend's having a bad day, and usually has a checklist of things to do to make it better. Hunk is very much a caring friend, and he always wants to make sure everyone's doing good. He loves his friends, even the ones reluctant to his hugs, and he keeps an eye on them to keep them in good spirits. He's friends with Lance, whom he's known for quite a while, and while Lance is loud and exuberant and makes way too many bad decisions, he's always the first person to get dragged on an adventure or to encourage his really terrible insults. He knows Lance always has his back, but in turn, he does the same. Pidge, the newest one of their team at school (you know, before the adventures into space hijinks), intrigues him with technology and research, but being the youngest with such a strong motivator to stay on the team as well, Hunk does his best to be nothing but supportive and watchful. He even finds out the secret Pidge has been keeping early in, but feels no need to spill; but with Pidge being almost as mischievous as Lance, Hunk always finds himself at risk of getting caught doing something.

He loves food, and he loves to eat. During carefree afternoons when he's got free time, if he's not tinkering with electronics, he'll smuggle in a second lunch. He even spends time with Coran, the ship's mechanic and the Princess's right hand man, fiddling around with the unfamiliar foods on the ship in the hopes of making something that tastes more... earthy. He even gives Coran's strange-looking and normally stinky items a chance--or rather, he tries. While his stomach doesn't get him as airsick in space as it has during the early days of Voltron (and every single simulator at school if it wasn't smooth), it's still rather sensitive at times.

He also harbors a crush on a young alien named Shay. Outside of just enjoying her presence upon speaking with her, he feels a drive to show her happiness. Shay and her people are one of Hunk's biggest motivators fo staying with Voltron and for fighting to save the universe. He wants to stop Galra, the legion terrorizing space, because he doesn't want to see more people who grew up as Shay did, living underground and slaving away every day for the Galra. The Galra had enslaved her people for a long time, and it isn't a common occurrence for them at all. Hunk wants to put an end to it. Shay had had one request--she wanted to see what the sky looked like, wanted to feel wind even on her broken planet, and Hunk's motivation had been set. He fights in part just for her. She'd been captured at one point, and he spent a short while afterward hastily urging the rest of the paladins to rush on ahead to save her, despite the fact that they'd needed to assist others as well. Knowing she's safe now is a comfort to him, but he plans on fighting to make sure they stay safe.

"No, you already had like half the bag!"

While most trainers had their pokemon securely in their pokeballs or cooperating with them, taking them on adventures or battling in the wonderful pleasant fall weather, Hunk found himself at an impasse of crunchy proportions. He'd opted to spend the afternoon reading and on a picnic with his Sandshrew, enjoying the weather outside, and had taken a few snacks to share along the beachy waterside. His Sandshrew, a little explorer, liked just burrowing for a while, hence their afternoon--an afternoon of digging through the ground and playing weird games of peek-a-boo. But when he realized that his pokemon was the one thing that rivaled his snacking habits... He knew he was in trouble.

Scooping up the little wiggling monster in one arm, he held it back from the shelf and sighed.

"Come on, Amber, you gotta stop fighting me on this. You're gonna get fatter than a Snorlax!"

Which was actually a little ironic, coming from him. The pokemon wiggled, frowning up at him, as if he could get his trainer to change his mind by mere pity. Hunk, ever the responsible owner, had read that it probably was safest to keep pokemon to a strict poke-foods diet, to prevent unnecessary complications or sicknesses, much like a regular dog or cat to him, but his little pokemon had other ideas in mind. Also known as Hunk's favorite potato chips.

The little creature wiggles more, tail swinging about and smacking Hunk's leg. He already had bruises from yesterday, from this exact same thing.

The sad thing though--he was weak to that woeful gaze, those deep, black eyes surrounded by scales, giving him the saddest stare and the most pitiful of whines.

"Shreeww...."

"Okay, fine! Only two bags, okay?!"

But as he grabbed for them, trying to maneuver them into the basket before Amber actually snatched one to eat right then, the Sandshrew's tail swished back behind him, and right into the shelf.

...and knocked it over. Hunk didn't even have time to turn around. Wincing, he just watched the shelf tilt, holding his pokemon a little closer to him.

"S-sorry? I, uh... I can clean that up?"
